SHOW INFO

PLOT SUMMARY
Seussical the Musical is a contemporary re-imagining of Dr. Seuss, which weaves together many of his most famous stories and characters in unexpected ways. The musical creates the witty, wild and whimsical world of Dr. Seuss as it has never been seen before. When chaos erupts in the Jungle of Nool, it will take The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz and a gaggle of characters to bring harmony back to their world.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
Roles are open to performers of all races, gender identities, and body types.
AUDITION SIDES: https://bit.ly/HSACSeussSides

The Cat in the Hat | To play ages: 18-35. Vocal Range: D6-Bd4
The Cat is the essence of mischief, fun and imagination. The Cat stirs things up, causes trouble, but always sets things right again, helping Jojo to discover his own imagination as they create the story for the show together. This actor must be physically adept, comfortable playing many comedic cameos and improvising with the audience.

JoJo | To play ages: 8-14. Vocal Range: D6-Ab4
Jojo is a smart child with a wild imagination. He’s seen as being a little bit awkward, a little bit of a loner, or simply a rambunctious kid whose Thinks get him into constant trouble. Through the show, he learns what it means to be a responsible member of the world, using the power and possibility and imagination.

Horton the Elephant | To play ages: 45-55. Vocal Range: E6-A4
Horton is a gentle giant. Think of him as a big-hearted blue-collar guy who is steadfast, responsible and always tries to do the right thing for his friends. He is imaginative and receptive to the world around him while also very unselfconscious. Horton's view of the world never changes – he believes in its goodness.

Gertrude McFuzz | To play ages: 22-33. Vocal Range: Eb5-F3
Gertrude is very self-conscious and aware that her one-feather tail isn't perfect. Gertrude changes during the show from a neurotic, nervous and shy bird into one with the power to protect and care for a baby elephant bird and commit herself to Horton. In other words, she stops worrying about her looks and grows up.

Mayzie LaBird | To play agers: 21-32. Vocal Range: E5-G#3
Mazie is self-centered, selfish, and vain. Mayzie will never admit to her own flaws. She manipulates anyone she can into doing what she wants. But Mayzie isn't all bad. In giving up her egg to Horton once and for all, she has a moment of generosity-she realizes she isn’t the kind of person who would be a good parent, and she does the best thing she can for the egg.

The Sour Kangaroo | To play ages: 23-35. Vocal Range: Eb5-A3
Kangaroo is the diva queen of the jungle, a true tyrannical marsupial with an attitude. The Sour Kangaroo actually isn't really sour at all. She’s just loud, brassy, and a whole lot of fun!

The Bird Girls | To play ages: 16-40. Vocal Range: Mixed
The Bird Girls are a flamboyant trio that lives to sing, dance and perform. They love to tell stories, embellished by their melodious voices and expressive physiques. The Bird Girls serve as back-up performers to the exquisite talents of Mayzie La Bird, and through their affiliation with her are lifted to the upper echelons of the jungle hierarchy.

The Wickersham Brothers | To play age: 16-40. Vocal Range: Mixed
The Brothers are not bad guys! They’re simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks, and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others’ expense. They enjoy hanging around with one another, making music together on the street corner, and playing off one another.

Mr. Mayor | To play ages: 32-45. Vocal Ranges: A6-C5
Mr. Mayor wants to be a good leader and father. He is a recently elected official who is proud of his new role and eager to prove his abilities. He feels he must embody the high standards he hopes his citizens will live up to, even if that means showing his son JoJo a bit of tough love.

Mrs. Mayor | To play ages: 30-40. Vocal Ranges: D5-A3
Mrs. Mayor wants, above all else, to be a good wife to Mr. mayor and mother to JoJo. But JoJo’s “thinks” have been causing all sorts of consternation at home and at school. Being married to a recently elected politician who takes great pleasure in representing the community he loves, Mrs. Mayor strives to keep their world tidy, neat, and free from unexpected occurrences.

General Genghis Kahn Schmitz | To play ages: 30-50. Vocal Ranges: E4-B2
The General sees the world in simple contrasts: good and evil, weak and strong, boy and man. He believes in values of militaristic regimentation: conformity, rigorous and disciplined physical training, and following orders without questions. There is no place on the battlefield for dreaming.

The Who’s | Any age. Vocal Ranges: V#5-G3
The Who’s are a part of our ensemble. They are a lot like you and me, only so small as to be invisible. They share a love of inherent humanity through their own unique Whoville personas.

Jungle Creatures | Any age. Vocal Ranges: Db5-A3
Jungle Creatures – are a part of our ensemble. They are real people at heart, just like us, even though they may be described as animal characters.
