Aida

February 08 - March 17, 2013

The opera Aida by Giuseppe Verdi was first performed at the Khedivial Opera House in Cairo, Egypt on December 24, 1871. For nearly a century and a half it has been a mainstay of opera companies worldwide. In 1998 Elton John and Tim Rice adapted this grand classic into a contemporary rock-musical with soaring ballads and a stirring score. The result was the Tony and Grammy award winning AIDA.

This is a timeless story of forbidden love set in an ancient time of war. An Egyptian captain is betrothed to Pharaohs’ daughter. The marriage will insure political and family dynasties. But the captain falls in love with an enslaved Nubian princess and heir to the throne of his sworn enemy.
